Obituary for Sofia T. Zandonatti

Sofia T.  Zandonatti
Victoria- Sofia T. Zandonatti, 78, of Victoria passed away in her home on April 15, 2017 with her loving daughters by her side. She was born March 27, 1939 in Geseke, Germany to the late Heinrich and Maria Cramer Knust. She came to the U.S. in 1961 and met the love of her life, James Zandonatti of Victoria, and they were married in 1965. Sofia was strong in her Catholic faith, an avid gardener and homemaker, and a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She worked in the snack bar at Century Lanes, where she enjoyed building friendships with the customers.

Sofia is survived by daughters, Marlies Sanders (Tim) and Hilary Lucas (Lonnie) and grandchild, Dylan Lucas, all of Victoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 43 years; sister, Elisabeth Huhne; brother, Bernhard Knust; grandchildren, Adison Nicole Lucas and Lacey Denise Sanders.

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Thursday, April 20, 2017 from 5-7 P.M. at Grace Funeral Home, 2401 Houston Hwy, with a rosary to follow at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, April 21, 2017 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

Special thanks to all her doctors, especially Dr. Sabbagh and his staff for helping her carry on her courageous 22 year battle with cancer. Thanks to Yvonne with Citizens Home Health and all Hospice of South Texas staff, especially Dr. Whitehouse, Stephanie, Brianna, Amber, Larry, Leo, and Ramon, for the wonderful care.

Pallbearers are Tim Sanders, Lonnie Lucas, Leslie Hawes, Pat Hawes, Landon Wiggen and George Migl.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of South Texas or St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
