Obituary for Mary Lou Cole
Port Lavaca ~ Mary Lou Cole, 86, passed away in her home on Thursday, February 9, 2017. She was surrounded by her family, friends and dedicated, compassionate caregivers of Trinity Shores Senior Living, Port Lavaca, Texas.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved brother in law. Lou was born August 5, 1930, Goliad, Texas, to George and Gladys Cole. After graduating from Goliad High School, Lou pursued a teacher’s degree from Baylor University, Waco, Texas.
She devoted the next 32 years to educating and enlightening the next generation of students not only with talented teaching skills but with love, compassion and nurturing of the body and soul.
The last 26 years of educating was proudly provided at O’Connor Elementary School, Victoria, Texas. Lou also spent as many years, if not more, teaching, nurturing, sharing with word of God as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and active in many church programs at Baptist Temple Church, Victoria, and First Baptist Church, Port Lavaca.
After retirement, Lou remained active in church and community programs. She later became the very first resident of Trinity Shores Senior Living, Port Lavaca, where she continued to serve the Lord by sharing her loving spirit and strong faith will all who crossed her path. Lou has resided in Trinity Shores for the past 10 years.
Lou is survived by her sister, Jean Cain, of Port Lavaca, nieces Candy Taylor (George) of McQueeney, TX and Cathy Clymer-Barrera (Trino) of Victoria, TX; five great nieces and nephews; and 13 great-great nieces and nephews.
A memorial to celebrate Lou’s life of servanthood to Jesus Christ and her fellow man will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Alamo Heights Baptist Church, Port Lavaca, TX. Family burial will follow at 2:00 PM at Glendale Cemetery, in Goliad, TX.
