Hospitality comes to mind when I think of Uncle Chuck and Aunt Jerry. We first met 5 months after Wes and I were married when we visited them in Maryland with Wes’s family, and Aunt Barb and Marty for Easter 1969. We stayed with them several times afterward in Maryland, Virginia, and Texas and were always warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. Uncle Chuck was always a great tour guide and would take us anywhere we wanted to go except the Vietnam Memorial. When we visited them in Fairfax in 1986, our youngest son, Quentin was about 8 years old. Uncle Chuck made a marble cake for dinner one night. It is still Quentin’s favorite cake. He and Jen even had marble cake balls at their wedding.

Many of my favorite recipes came from Uncle Chuck including kalua pork, King ranch chicken, and macaroni and cheese. He and Aunt Jerry were both great cooks!

When Wes’ Dad had heart surgery in March 1973, Uncle Chuck came to Michigan to take care of Kim and Cam so Charlotte (Chuck’s sister) could be at the hospital (hospital stay for heart surgery then was about 2 weeks) and not have to worry about the younger boys. Wes was working 2nd shift and would go to the hospital in the morning and then to work leaving me pretty much alone and without a car with 2 babies (Kara was 7 months and Derek 3 years). Every afternoon Uncle Chuck would come and get me and the kids to have dinner and spend time with him and Kim and Cam. It saved me from extreme loneliness!

In recent years we looked forward to his visits to Michigan, when he would stay with us and we would be up until 2 in the morning talking. He also made several trips to Wichita Falls when we were there visiting our kids. I’m so glad our grandkids got a chance to meet him! When he was there last year for the Superbowl Game the grandkids were kept busy painting pictures. Our grandson, Daniel, gave his to Uncle Chuck.

He will be greatly missed by our whole family, especially me!

Sending my heartfelt condolences to all of Chuck's family. I feel honored & blessed to have known him & been friends. Just not near long enough. Chuck had so very much wisdom & was a happy fun gentleman. Definitely a gentleman with much integrity. He loved his family dearly. I will always remember Chuck & miss him terribly. I'll carry memories of him in my heart & his wisdom in my mind. What a guy! Thank you for your service. You were definitely a hero.

It saddened me greatly to read of Chuck's passing. He was a good friend of my husband, Ladie. They had a common love of clocks. My husband was a clock repairman. Chuck spent many hours in our clock shop. I was privileged to visit with him in his home as he & Ladie put Chuck's beloved grandfather clock back together. Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Chuck was kind, funny and it was a blessing to know him.
